Book Review - A Whole New World: A Twisted Tale by Liz Braswell

What if Jafar was the first one to summon the Genie?

When Jafar steals the Genie’s lamp, he uses his first two wishes to become sultan and the most powerful sorcerer in the world. Agrabah lives in fear, waiting for his third and final wish.To stop the power-mad ruler, Aladdin and the deposed Princess Jasmine must unite the people of Agrabah in rebellion. But soon their fight for freedom threatens to tear the kingdom apart in a costly civil war.

What happens next? A Street Rat becomes a leader. A princess becomes a revolutionary. And readers will never look at the story of Aladdin in the same way again.

A quick and easy read. I loved flipping the tale on it's head so Aladdin and Jasmine had to work hard to defeat Jafar. This Jasmine is the Jasmine I always imagined she should be. A strong and determined leader. Yes the first part is pretty much word for word the original movie but it was cool to see one moment change the entire story. A dark tale but set as middle grade fiction to me made it not overly worrisome. I would recommend this book to young Disney fans that are yet jaded. 3.5 stars.

Thank you Scholastic Australia for a copy of this book in return for my independent and honest review.
