Book Review: A New Friend (Pepper Creek Ponies #1) by Jess Black

A very sweet read for the pre to middle-grade reader. Of course horses are a primary part of the story so this is perfect for all those young readers that love horses! There are quite a few illustrations throughout the book to keep those new readers entertained as they progress. A lovely tale of developing friendships and overcoming challenges together. I give this book 4 stars.

When Abby moves from the city to the country, she misses her old life. Despite her fear of horses, she visits Pepper Creek Pony Club in the hope of making friends. But Abby quickly learns that being a horse-girl is harder than she thought. Will Abby ever make a new friend?

Welcome to Pepper Creek Pony Club! Here’s where you’ll meet a delightful assortment of ponies. There’s the majestic Thunder with his dark coat and white blaze. Juniper is a lovely ride for nervous beginners. Banjo belongs to Shelley and she loves him to bits. And of course, Taco, whose round belly gives away his love of food.

Shelley, Abby and Piper become best friends who share a love of ponies. They spend every spare minute they have at Pepper Creek Pony Club caring for and riding their ponies. There’s laughter, fun and lots of adventures to be had!

The series is based on Jess' childhood adventures at a pony club in Brisbane. Serena Geddes is illustrating. The first book, A New Friend, is being released in January, 2021.

Thank you Scholastic Australia for providing me a copy in return for my independent and honest review.
