Cinder by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles #1)

I was a little slow to delve into this. I have never been a fan of science fiction books. Also the thought of slavery and people being considered ‘less than’ always makes me feel a little ill. However once I got into it I was surprised. Yes there are a lot of uncomfortable topics covered but the focus was on how our MC dealt with them and I was able to put aside myself to enjoy the story. As with all retellings I was yelling at the character every so often for not doing what she was supposed to, but I thoroughly enjoyed the reimagining Meyer has written and this really not perfect world. I’ve only read the first book in this series but I can guarantee you that I will be reading them all eventually. This is my first Marissa Meyer book and I am excited to see what comes of this series. ★★★★

See below for synopsis:

A forbidden romance. A deadly plague. Earth's fate hinges on one girl . . . CINDER, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She's reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen - and a dangerous temptation. Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth's future. This is not the fairytale you remember. But it's one you won't forget.
